WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

Kaleidescape engineering is seeking a details-oriented engineer to continue extending our media playback capabilities. Media playback is a hard real-time problem that demands predictable behavior, management of streaming data, low-latency user response times, and synchronization of audio and video outputs. To be successful in this role, the candidate should have multi-threaded programming experience, the ability to think rigorously about complex systems, excellent debugging skills, and a relentless desire to pursue correctness.

Projects may include adding new playback features , designing and implementing support for new media formats, adding support for new video and audio codecs, and creating tools to analyze and process media content. Candidates should be able to work independently, have excellent written and oral communication skills, be eager to learn, and enjoy movies and music. Experience with some of the following is an asset:

  • C++, GNU toolchain
  • Embedded real-time operating systems
  • Highly concurrent thread-based architectures
  • Digital video and audio codecs
  • Digital media formats (DVD-Video, VCD, H.264, VC-1, MPEG-2 transport and program streams, etc.)
  • Audio and video standards
  • Distributed systems, TCP/IP
